As one of the world’s most renowned wine regions, Barossa Valley is celebrated not only for its exceptional wines but also for its rich history and unique cultural atmosphere that captivates all who visit!

When it comes to influential figures in the Australian Chinese wine community, Dennis HAN LIN stands at the forefront.

With over a decade of industry experience, he is Sydney’s first Chinese WSET Level 4 diploma holder, an officially certified instructor, a Barossa Master, founder of Wine Knights, a CMS-certified sommelier, a judge for the Asian Wine Quality Competition, and a dedicated wine culture promoter, with students spread across prestigious wineries throughout Australia.

The first day of this journey was filled with exciting experiences and unforgettable memories—let’s take a look back at this remarkable adventure!

First Stop: Welcome Ceremony at Mengler Hill Lookout

Our journey began at Mengler Hill Lookout, located at 127 Mengler Hill Road. Here, we were warmly welcomed by Scott Hazeldine, the CEO of Barossa Valley.

Standing at the lookout, we gazed upon the stunning panorama of Barossa Valley, where lush vineyards and rolling hills shimmered under the sunlight.

Scott introduced us to the rich history and wine culture of Barossa Valley, sharing insights into its unique terroir.

This inspiring start filled us with excitement for the adventures ahead!

Second Stop: Langmeil Winery – A Journey of Heritage and Freedom Vineyard

Winemaker Jonathan Bitter personally welcomed us, leading us on an immersive winery tour.

Here, we encountered some of the oldest surviving Shiraz vines in the world, now 181 years old.

Jonathan spoke with immense pride as he introduced the vines, originally planted by German immigrant Christian Auricht more than 180 years ago.

These ancient vines are celebrated for their low yield yet exceptional quality, producing wines that are highly acclaimed for their complex flavors and rich history.

We strolled through Langmeil Winery’s Heritage and Freedom Vineyards as Jonathan shared fascinating insights into the history and uniqueness of these ancient vines.

During our tasting, we experienced the winery’s signature wines, each sip revealing the depth of time, craftsmanship, and tradition woven into every drop.

This vineyard visit not only deepened our understanding of the winemaking process but also highlighted Barossa Valley’s delicate balance between tradition and innovation.

Third Stop: Welcome Dinner in the 1860s Stone Cellar

Our evening welcome dinner took place in Langmeil Winery’s historic 1860s stone cellar, a venue filled with deep heritage and charm, adding a special atmosphere to our gathering.

Hosts Jonathan Bitter and Scott Hazeldine warmly welcomed us, ensuring an unforgettable experience. Exquisite cuisine paired seamlessly with exceptional wines, creating the perfect setting for lively conversations and shared passions. The love for Barossa and the dedication to fine wine were reflected in every smile and raised glass.

This welcome dinner was more than just a feast for the senses—it was a heartfelt exchange. Among like-minded wine enthusiasts, we celebrated our shared passion and looked forward to more incredible adventures ahead!

On this captivating land, we experienced a remarkable encounter with nature, history, and fine wine.

A heartfelt thanks to the Wine Knights team and Dennis Hanlin for their meticulous planning, giving us the opportunity to taste an exclusive selection of rare vintage wines during this tour.
